BUTTOCK IMPLANTS

This type of surgery has become increasingly popular in recent years and the developments in the techniques used have greatly improved. There are two types of buttock implants used in Venezuela. The first is a silicone implant placed during a surgical operation and the second is an injectable filler where a general anaesthetic is not required.

The silicone implant is put in via an incision in the upper crease (near the tailbone) in the buttock area. The surgeon may also use liposuction on the buttock area to give the buttock region a good shape maximising the effect of the implants.

Anaesthetic

This operation is usually carried out while the patient is under general anaesthetic.

Complications include infection and bleeding. These are possible with any surgery. However, they are unusual. The implants are very strong and made out of hard silicone but they may rupture needing another operation (this is very rare). Sometimes a fluid may form around the buttock implants. This can be drained by your surgeon with a needle. Also nerve injury may occur however this is very unusual and loss of feeling is more likely usually lasting for the first few weeks.

Recovery involves lying on the stomach for the first few days. The buttock area will probably swell and you will feel discomfort for the first few days. However, this can be minimised by painkillers prescribed by your surgeon. It is important to understand that because of this recovery and aftercare no other surgical procedures can be carried out at the same time as buttock implants and liposuction in the region.

The injectable filler is an outpatient solution which usually does not leave any marks. An injectable filler is used to augment the buttock area. Because of the delicate nature of this procedure only a highly qualified and trained plastic surgeon should carry this out as with any surgical procedure.
