EYE LIFT
This operation aims to rejuvenate the eye area. The plastic surgeon removes the excess skin, tightens the muscle from around the eyes and removes or re-allocates the fat found in this area. The eye bags can also be reduced. This procedure involves making incisions along the creases of the upper and/or lower lids depending on what the patient and surgeon want to achieve.
The ideal candidates are those in good health who have realistic expectations.
There exist certain medical conditions that make this operation riskier. These include those who suffer from thyroid problems or Graves disease, diabetes, abnormally high blood pressure in the arteries, or any cardiovascular problems.
Other complications that occur include double vision, dry eye syndrome (most cases return to normal a few days or weeks after surgery). Skin cysts along the incision line can sometimes occur, these are called Milia and they usually go away on their own. In extremely rare cases, blindness has been reported because of excess bleeding behind the eye. However, this is very rare. These complications are significantly minimised if you are in the hands of a highly qualified and experienced plastic surgeon.
The first consultation with your surgeon is very important. Your surgeon will need to know your family history. Be honest with your surgeon about all your medical history (allergies, illnesses, medication you are on, any addictions etc…). Be clear about any doubts and/or concerns you may have.
Anaesthetic
This operation is usually carried out under local anaesthetic, or intravenous sedation. However, many surgeons prefer general anaesthetic.
After the operation contact lenses are not recommended to be worn for at least two weeks. You are usually able to return to work after 7-10 days. There is usually bruising around the eyes afterwards and the homeopathic remedy Arnica is recommended before and after this procedure is carried out.
There could be hyper-sensitivity due to sunlight, wind or any other form of irritation.
The process of the scars healing is gradual. The scars could remain pinkish for six months or more after the operation. Afterwards they should start to adopt a more natural colour until practically blending into skin-tone.
