FACIAL IMPLANTS

Facial implants are used to improve the facial structure. Harmony and balance of the face is aimed for so that you will feel more confident about your appearance. There exist many types of facial implants including cheek implants and chin implants.

Be clear with your surgeon about what you expect from this surgery.

One complication that can arise after facial implant surgery is that facial implants can shift from the position they were originally put in and if this happens a second operation to put them back in place is required. If an infection occurs around the area of the implant the implant should be removed and put back when the infection has been cured. However, this is rare.

Cheek implants can be put in using silicone or alternatively they can be injected using synthetic materials.

Chin implants are usually made of silicone and require an operation of around 1 hour to place the implant in its position. Your surgeon will choose the size of the chin implant depending on the shape, structure and size of your face. The incision can be made inside the mouth or under the chin and the implant is placed above the bone of the chin. Cheek implants are placed over the natural cheek bones via incisions in the mouth or via incisions under the eyes (or via the face lift incisions if wanted with a facelift).

Swelling and discomfort are normal after facial implant operations. However, the time it takes for the major swelling to go down depends on if other cosmetic procedures were carried out during this time. Usually it takes a few days for the swelling to go down and the discomfort can be minimised by painkillers prescribed by your surgeon.

The final results can be seen after a few weeks or months when the swelling has completed disappeared.
