MORROCOY

Morrocoy is a spectacular national park consisting of many small deserted Caribbean islands (otherwise known as keys) covered with white sands surrounded by a delightful mixture of turquoise, jade and deep blue waters. It is virtually unknown to international tourists and is one of the preferred destinations for Venezuelans to go on weekends and holidays. It is so beautiful and paradise-like that it is protected by the government and no construction is allowed. There are speed boat taxis that take people to the islands. Venezuelans also bring their own boats. During this ride people can admire the natural splendour that Morrocoy boasts. There are many islands. One of the favourites is Cayo Sombrero (translated as Key Hat). Here snorkelling is one of the most popular things to do, (as well as swimming and relaxing under palm trees) as this island possesses a coralline ecosystem. Cayo Sombrero is the second largest island after Punta Brava. There is also a place in Morrocoy called Los Juanes (also known as “the swimming pool”) which is not an island but a place which has very clear, shallow water where the owners of speed boats and sailing boats stop and jump into the crystal water. There are boats that come around here selling seafood. Morrocoy is definitely a whole Caribbean experience not to be missed.
