LA VICTORIA

La Victoria is a small, historical city, a 45-minute drive from Caracas. It is located in a picturesque valley in the state of Aragua. The famous rum distillery of Santa Teresa is found here which has become a whole experience to visit as there are informative tours and people dressed as historical figures. The modern La Fontana Clinic is located here. Approximately 34 kilometres into the mountains from La Victoria there exists one of the most charming and unexpected places in Venezuela. It is a small part of the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) of Germany´s south west. However, it is located in Venezuela. After an agreement between the governments of Germany and Venezuela, the first inhabitants came from Germany to Venezuela in 1843 and built this extraordinary town in the mountains. They came from little towns like Wyhl, Edingen and Oberbergen of Kaiserstuhl. For many years they remained isolated from the rest of the country, and for that reason, they were able to keep many of their ancestral traditions for many generations. For example, they kept their language, the Badischen (a dialect from Baden), their food, their national dress and even their typical dances. Now all of these German descendants speak Spanish and have become an important part of the country.
